Are you a business owner? Would you like to learn how to optimize your Twitter profile to attract new followers? After many conversations with other business woman, I’m focusing on four social networks in this “Optimize Your Social Media Profiles” series. In this second post in the series, we’re focusing on Twitter, a social network that users either love or find very confusing to use.
Twitter is fast-paced social network. You can (and it’s almost necessary) to post multiple times a day. If someone finds your tweets interesting, you want to make a good impression when they view your profile.
Before we get started on how to optimize your Twitter account, you should know I have a 5-step marketing strategy that I use for all my social media. Grab a free copy of the Quick Start Checklist below for ideas on how to plan your book marketing strategy. After you download the checklist, you will have access to a FREE 5-Day Email Course.
1 | Create Username
Create an account. I highly recommend you use the same username that you have used for all your social media profiles. If you need to vary some, be sure to choose a short, but professional and relevant username. Twitter does allow you to change later.
2 | Use a Profile Photo
It’s recommended that you add a photo of yourself rather than a company logo. People want to connect to a person. Remember you can add the logo to your header. Try it out. It’s a much better look to have your photo over an image that represents your business.
3 | Write Bio
You have 160 characters to work with for your Twitter bio. Let people know immediately what you do and what you can offer them. I personally read bios before I decide to follow back.
4 | Include Website Link
Include a link to your website so people can learn more about you and your business. If you’re launching or just launched a product, you may want to direct traffic to a landing page that captures emails or a sales page.
5 | Promote Your Brand
Add a professional Twitter cover image that is relevant to your business. You may find yourself changing this out often if you have a new product launch or upcoming event. Think about matching this header to the one created for Facebook. Using apps like Canva.com will help you be consistent with your branding on all platforms.
6 | Pinned Tweet
Twitter gives you the option to “pin” a tweet at the top of your profile. Include a link to an upcoming product launch, latest blog post or your mailing list sign-up.
