5 Ways To Effectively Manage Your Social Media

Let’s face it! As hard as you may try, there will be days, weeks and dare I say months where you don’t have time to post to social media. You never want to completely abandon your account.  With the abundance of social media management tools it’s so easy to stay visible even during your busiest time.

1 | Post evergreen messages.

“Evergreen” simply means content that is perpetually good anytime. You want to stay away from content that will become dated quickly.

Pull together your evergreen blog posts, links to products, quotes, etc in a document or a spreadsheet. It doesn’t hurt to craft annual messages like “Happy Thanksgiving,” Happy Holidays,” etc.

2 | Figure out the best time to post.

Automation does help you consistently remain active on your accounts, which is key to growing an audience. You can google to find all types of articles about the best times to post. It’s easier to remember people login to their social networks at various times during the day. Think morning, lunch and dinner time. You may want to check your analytics to see when your posts receive the most engagement.

3 | Select a social media tool(s).

Once you have the basics on posting times, find a social media management tool will help you manage and automate your messages. If you can, I recommend finding a tool that allows you to manage the majority of your social networks in one place. Sometimes this isn’t always possible.

If you’re like me, you may find some tools work better for one social network versus another, so you may have more than one tool in your arsenal. Below I’m only recommending tools that I personally use. The tools with an (*) I do subscribe to the paid plans, but all have free plans.

4 | Make time to engage.

Now I don’t emphasize automating your social media too much because it is important to engage with your audience. The key to engagement is to find the time that works best for you.  I have found my target audience is online in the evenings which works out better for me.

5 | Use a strategy.

You don’t just want to be posting without a focus or mission.  In fact I suggest choosing at a maximum of 2 social networks so you don’t overwhelm yourself.  Find time to balance scheduling messages, engaging and evaluating your efforts.
